CAMBA @ Tribeca Film Festival

 

CAMBA’s Beacon Community Centers@ P.S 269 in East Flatbush and at I.S 271 in Ocean Hill participated in the Tribeca Film Festival’s “Tribeca Teaches” program. The  middle and high school students spent 12 weeks conceiving and filming their own short  documentary films with the support of teaching artists. Each of these films explores the perceptions, lives, experiences and perspectives of the young people who live in the Brooklyn neighborhoods served by in CAMBA’s Beacon Community Centers.

CAMBA has operated the Beacon Community Center at  P.S. 269 since 1994 and the Beacon Community Center at I.S. 271 since 2000. Both centers are responsive to the needs of the communities they serve and offer programming for young people that is grounded in the principles of youth development.

For students in East Flatbush, Brooklyn healthy food options are considered to be less than accessible but after further exploration they discover there is a vibrant food justice movement happening in their own backyard.

A Different Me

Middle school girls in Brownsville explore the difference between their physical, emotional and mental development during their adolescent years and discover that while they may look like young adults they are really still growing up.
