Frequently Asked Questions

CAMBA is proud to collaborate, for the fifth year in a row, with Youth, I.N.C. (Improving Nonprofits for Children), a nonprofit that produces and underwrites most of this event so that more than 90% of your donation directly supports CAMBA’s programs.

What is A Celebration to Benefit New York Kids?
A Celebration to Benefit New York Kids is an annual fundraising event produced an underwritten by Youth, I.N.C.  to enable nonprofits to build their capacity to successfully raise funds through special events. In addition to CAMBA, 16 youth-serving nonprofits will participate.

What will take place on the night of the event?
CAMBA's guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, a short program that recognizes all of the participating organizations, and dessert with a host of people that also believe in the extraordinary work that we all do to change the lives of New York City's youth every day.

What is CAMBA’s goal this year?
Our goal this year is $150,000.

What is Youth, I.N.C.?
Youth, I.N.C. (Improving Nonprofits for Children) is a nonprofit organization, whose mission is to build the capacities of nonprofit organizations to successfully raise unrestricted funding. They do this by means of a year-long program that involves workshops and individual consulting to guide nonprofits, who are new to event fundraising, through the process.

How is Youth, I.N.C. able to underwrite the cost of the event?
Each year, Youth, I.N.C., raises its own funds to support the program.  Thus the cost to us is significantly lower than the cost of running an event on our own.

How do the participating nonprofits raise money?
With the help of Youth, I.N.C., each participating nonprofit raises its own funds  Each year we have a group of co-chairs who contribute and raise funds from their personal and business contacts. In addition, CAMBA taps into its own individual and corporate supporters, who have responded generously over the past 5 years.

Why do I have to make out my check to Youth I.N.C. instead of CAMBA?
Youth I.N.C. manages the event and processes the gifts. Because it is a nonprofit, your gift is tax deductible.

How much of my gift is tax deductible?
For each ticket you use, $125.00 of your gift is not deductible. If you do not take any tickets, you can deduct the full amount of your contribution.  If you take a ticket and decide not to use it, you still need to subtract $125 from your deduction.

How does the match work?
CAMBA sets a goal for the event in consultation with Youth, I.N.C. If we reach that goal Youth, I.N.C. matches up to 10 per-cent of the total we raise, virtually wiping out most if not all of our administrative costs. This is why we can say that almost all of the money you contribute will directly support our work.

How much money has CAMBA raised by participating in Celebration?
Over the past five years, the total amount CAMBA has raised is close to $500,000 in unrestricted funds. In 2005, our first year, we raised $53, 935; last year our total was $219, 420.

Will this continue to be an annual event?
CAMBA will continue to hold a major fundraising event in the fall. Participation in the Youth, I.N.C. program is limited to five years.  We have greatly strengthened our ability to run a successful fundraising event and are ready to build a signature event focused exclusively on CAMBA. We will notify everyone as the specifics of next year’s event take shape.

I can’t afford to purchase a ticket; is it possible for me to contribute a smaller amount?
CAMBA is grateful for gifts of any amount made to support Celebration.
