Beacon Community Centers

The Beacon Community Centers are school-based community centers that provide a structured mix of regular programming activities and special events, serving a target population of low-income youth and families in Central Brooklyn.  CAMBA’s first Beacon opened in 1993 and we opened a second in 2000.  The Beacon model represents an important Citywide effort to leverage the assets of public school buildings in communities by keeping them open in the evenings and on weekends.  Beacon services strengthen youth and families and build more cohesive communities.

CAMBA’s Beacon Community Centers provide:

Academic Enrichment

Career Awareness

Health and Life Skills

Youth Leadership

Community Building

Arts and cultural and social activities for students, families and
     neighborhood residents

Activities and services are available after school, evenings and weekends.
