Started in 2001, CAMBA’s Community Health Worker Program builds upon the success of Healthy Families America. The program serves the 11226 and 11203 Zip codes and provides pregnant women and parenting families with family case management services focused on improving mother-baby health outcomes. It is targeted to the poor and the medically underserved. Services can be provided on a short- or long-term-basis and are available until the child is two-years old. Community Health Workers help families access needed services including medical insurance, adult literacy classes, and concrete services. They also provide translation and case management services to many newly arrived immigrants. The program currently serves 140 families per year.
