CAMBA’s Women’s Prevention Services Program outreaches to women at risk for HIV and other STIs in Brooklyn. The program promotes overall well-being through raising awareness and educating and empowering women.
The program provides a range of options for women with varying levels of need and commitment including one-time educational workshops, group-level evidence-based interventions, comprehensive risk counseling services and referrals to HIV, STI and Hepatitis testing.
Women’s Prevention Services offers three group-level interventions that are part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions initiative---VOICES, SISTA and WILLOW. VOICES/VOCES (Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education and Safer Sex) is a single-session, video-based intervention that aims to increase condom use and is a means to initially engage women who may not be ready to commit to a longer intervention. SISTA (Sisters Informing Sisters on Topics about AIDS) has a five-session plus a booster session social skills training curriculum designed to enhance self-worth and to teach assertiveness and communication skills. WILLOW (Women Involved in Life Learning from Other Women) is designed for HIV-positive women and focuses on the development of coping strategies, goal setting and improved decision-making skills.
Program staff are available to provide services and interventions at CAMBA’s 19 Winthrop location and also off-site at other locations within the community, such as shelters, clinics and other programs for women.
