CAMBA Housing Ventures is negotiating with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), the Kings County Hospital Center (KCHC) to advance a $73.2 million proposal to develop two environmentally sustainable and healthy buildings on side-by-side parcels, separated by an access road easement on the grounds of Kings County Hospital. Together the buildings will have 202 affordable and supportive housing units and approximately 178,990 gross square feet. The project will have a mix of studios, one, two and three-bedroom units, social service space and a community garden. Construction is anticipated to start in late 2009. The buildings will participate in the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Energy Star program and will seek a LEED for Homes rating.
Anticipated funding will be provided by New York City bond proceeds, tax credit equity, New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, New York State Homeless Housing and Assistance Program, Federal Home Loan Bank and NYSERDA. The development team includes Harden Van Arnam Architects; Amy Larovere, A. Larovere Consulting, Alan Epstein, Hirschen Singer & Epstein LLP; Steven Winter Associates, NYSERDA and LEED partner and Richman Housing Resources.
