CAMBA started the Foreclosure Prevention Counseling Program in 2008 in response to the home foreclosure crisis, and to meet the needs of homeowners in Brooklyn. The program offers both group and individual housing counseling. Group counseling sessions are targeted to homeowners who are concerned about or at-risk of foreclosure. Clients learn what foreclosure is, how it happens and how it can be avoided. Participants are also taught how to protect themselves from predatory and improper lending practices. Individual foreclosure prevention counseling includes one-on-one assistance in resolving a homeowner's foreclosure or deliquency problem. Services include loan modification packaging, advocacy with the lender, referral to legal services, etc. Our program serves 200 homeowners each year.
