Morris Manor

Morris Manor is an $8.4 million, 46-studio-unit supportive and affordable housing development in the vibrant neighborhood of Flatbush.  Morris Manor began construction on a long-vacant City-owned lot in summer 2006 and opened on October 1, 2008; lease-up was completed by the end of November 2008.  This beautiful building provides tenants a decent, safe and permanent home complete with community rooms for tenant and community use and a landscaped back patio and garden.  Of the 46 units, 27 tenants are formerly homeless individuals with a disability, 18 tenants are low-income individuals who earn no more than 60% of the Area Median Income; a one-bedroom unit is occupied by the building's superintendent.

CAMBA provides case management and programming on-site, such as nutrition counseling, yoga, financial management and holiday and social gatherings; 24-hour building security is also provided.

Morris Manor has established a high standard for affordable housing in Brooklyn and for the future buildings that CAMBA/CAMBA Housing Ventures will develop.  With Harden Van Arnam Architects' commitment to thoughtful, contextual design and high-quality finishes, the building demonstrates that public and private investment can and will occur successfully in Flatbush.  Morris Manor recently won for Best Affordable Design as part of the 2009 Building Brooklyn Awards, held by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
