CAMBA Legal Services received funding from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women to start a Legal Services for Victims Program in 2010. Legal assistance is provided to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking in Brooklyn. The program provides integrated legal services focused on maximizing the victims’ safety and independence. Legal services include assistance with orders of protection; family court matters---divorce, child support and custody, and other issues; immigration; housing; consumer law; identity theft; and benefits advocacy. The legal service staff works closely with CAMBA’s Victims Assistance Programs, the Brooklyn Family Justice Center and other domestic violence providers to ensure that participants receive comprehensive services that are provided in an integrated way. The program specializes in serving immigrants and refugees who are experiencing domestic violence.
