Adult Literacy Center

In CAMBA’s Adult Literacy Center, we focus on the needs of adult learners, including immigrants with limited English language skills and English speakers who want to improve their skills in reading comprehension, language arts, math and test-taking skills. Our teaching methodology provides students with opportunities to develop self-confidence. Skills are contextualized so that students learn to apply their new skills in real life situations. This focus on real life includes an emphasis on health literacy. Additionally, textbooks are chosen to give students familiarity with the way questions are asked in the GED exam. The Center makes use of the latest technology to prepare students for the modern workplace.  Each classroom has a networked computer with Internet access and a printer.  In our technology lab, students use computers to write resumes, complete class assignments, practice literacy skills, and access educational materials from Web resources, including the Center’s own website www.literacycamba.org  The program has a consistent waiting list of over 200.
