FAMILY SERVICES
CAMBA’s Family
Center (CFC): CFC is a general preventive program serving families in
Community Districts 9, 14 and 17. CFC helps families eliminate or reduce the
risk of child abuse and neglect – which often results in children entering the
foster care system – by providing supportive services such as parenting
workshops, parent support groups, assistance with government entitlements,
health concerns, referrals for treatment programs and other barriers that may be
causing the family additional stress in caring for their children. CFC also
provides individual counseling, play therapy, school advocacy and housing
assistance.
Home Visiting Program (HVP): HVP reaches out to pregnant or newly parenting families living in zip code 11226 (Flatbush) to identify financial or emotional stress or other family risk factors that may exist at the time of pregnancy and birth. In cases where the family is determined to need additional support, they are offered voluntary visiting services. Home visits focus on parent/child interaction, effective parent/child bonding, and overall family support. Families must enroll pre-natally or before their child is 3 months old. These services can continue until the child’s fifth birthday.
Comprehensive Rape Crisis Intervention and Prevention Education Services (CRCIPES):
CRCIPES meets the needs of victims of sexual assault while raising public
awareness through prevention education. CRCIPES alleviates the immediate and
long-term negative, physical and emotional effects of sexual assault, and
ensures that all Brooklyn residents have access to appropriate services via our
24-hour, 7-day a week crisis counseling hotline.
The Sexual Assault hotline # is (800) 310-2449.
Families For Kids (FFK): FFK is a preventive foster care program that operates in conjunction with CAMBA’s Beacon Community Center at P.S. 269. FFK helps families eliminate or reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect – which often results in children entering the foster care system – by providing supportive services such as parenting workshops, parent support groups, assistance with government entitlements, health concerns, referrals for treatment programs and other barriers that may be causing the family additional stress in caring for their children.
Immigrant Women’s Program: CAMBA’s Immigrant Women’s Program (IWP) provides services to immigrant women, primarily Hispanic, who are victims of domestic violence. IWP offers individual, family and group counseling, educational workshops and benefits assistance to assure that 1) clients can recognize, prevent, diffuse and/or avoid violent situations and, 2) clients and their families gain the services needed to live decent, stable lives along with the skills and knowledge to empower them to navigate other agency and social services systems on their own.
Nutrition Outreach Education Program (NOEP): NOEP provides outreach to individuals and families who may be eligible for Food Stamps. Staff assists eligible persons on-site in filling out their applications and provides referrals to other food and nutritional resources.
Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP): The program works in host schools providing crisis-counseling services and educational workshops to increase student awareness of abusive relationship behaviors, develop healthy relationships and increase emotional support and stability. RAPP also conducts presentations and outreach to teachers, school staff, community residents and parents with information on identifying teen abuse. A seven-week summer Peer Leadership Program offers students additional education, community service credit and trains them to be peer leaders during the academic year.
Violence Intervention Program: The Violence Intervention and Prevention Program provides youth (15-21 years of age), adults, seniors, and their families who are affected by violence, or in situations where there is a potential for violence, with individual, group and family counseling. Utilizing a family-centered and strength-based approach, individuals and their families are provided a broad range of violence intervention and prevention services that develop knowledge and skills in violence prevention, strategies leading to immediate crisis resolutions, conflict mediation and skills to enhance long-term stability and self-reliance.
Victims Assistance Program: CAMBA provides victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes with assistance in processing claims for crime victims’ compensation. This program also offers comprehensive victims’ services, including individual and group counseling, conflict resolution, support groups, advocacy, and information and referral services.
