Program Sum​mary:

​​​​The Cooper Union Retraining Program for Immigrant Engineers at CAMBA assists immigrant engineers and IT Professionals who are underemployed or unemployed gain access to higher paying jobs through training and job placement assistance. The program includes courses in information technology and chemical, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering taught by Cooper Union faculty and field experts, offered nights and weekends. Participants receive 24-30 hours of course time per session, plus resume bu​ilding, interview preparation and sector based job placement services and career advisement.

​​​​Since its inception in 1987, the Retraining Program for Immigrant Engineers has placed 3,000 immigrant engineers into careers.

​​​​The following courses are offered:

  • Analytical Chemistry: Spectroscopy & Chromatography
  • Green Building Guidelines & Environmental Safety
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air-Condition & Refrigeration
  • Building Operation, Maintenance & Safety Regulations
  • National Electrical Code (NEC) & its applications
  • Bridge, Highway, Tunnels and Buildings:
  • Professional Practice for Cost Estimating
  • AISC Structural Steel Design
  • ACI Structural Concrete Design
  • Introduction to AutoCAD for engineers
  • Advanced AutoCAD and Revit
  • Data Architecture Principles, Data Structure and SQL
  • Java Programming
  • Microsoft .NET and C#
  • Software Quality Assurance—Manual Testing
  • Software Quality Assurance—Automated Testing
  • Linux (UNIX) Administration
  • Android Software Development

Eligibility: Immigrants who are work-authorized in the U.S., and must demonstrate a financial need, have educational credentials and professional experience in engineering, chemistry, information technology or related field.​

​​​​ Interested applicants should download and fill out our Application Form (2017) and and submit it along with their resume to

​​​​​Registration and Enrollment
Accepted applicants will be invited for registration in person at our Brooklyn Office.

​​​​On the date of your appointment, please bring the following:

  • Documents estab​lishing your eligibility to work in the United States (for example: White card (I-94), work authorization, green card, or US passport);
  • Social Security card;
  • Medicaid, Benefit Card, or proof of receiving unemployment insurance, if applicable;
  • University Diploma.

​​​​Registration fee of $50.00 should be paid to “The Cooper Union” by check or money order at the time of your registration appointment.

​​​​Our office is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Registrants will be seen by appointment only.
