Case Aide, CAMBA Legal Services - Housing Unit

Who We Are: For more than 20 years, CAMBA Legal Services, as a whole, has provided free, high-quality legal representation and advice to New Yorkers facing eviction and foreclosure, fighting high consumer debt, seeking U.S. residency and surviving domestic violence. CLS uses its diverse resources to offer holistic representation and advice.

 

The Housing Unit, in particular, preserves affording housing for Brooklyn's low-income communities through representation of low-income individuals and families throughout Brooklyn who are facing threats of eviction, harassment, or issues of habitability. Additionally, we advocate on the behalf of clients to retain or attain crucial public benefits that can preserve affordable housing.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The person filling this position is to provide support and assistance to the CLS housing program. This person is expected to conduct intake interviews; register clients in the CLS housing database; assist with inventory control; office filing; and other duties as the office sees fit. This person will work between two Brooklyn offices.


Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience.


Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to poverty law and social justice work
  • Superb organization, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to converse with clients in a language other than English preferred (Haitian/Creole, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, etc.)
