Outreach Coordinator, Beacon 361

Beacon Community Centers:  CAMBA administers school based Beacon community centers at P.S. 361 in East Flatbush and at I.S. 271 in Ocean Hill-Brownsville and at I.S. 166 in East New York and at P.S.164 in Borough Park. All 4 Beacon Centers are run in partnership with other community organizations to provide education, recreation, cultural activities, health information and screenings, youth leadership and social services to the school's students, their families, and other neighborhood residents. Activities and services are available after school, evenings and on weekends, and reach more than 5,000 people per year.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The person filling this position is expected, under close supervision, to interact with participants, their families, the community-at-large, and school administrative personnel to monitor attendance and participation in program activities; including the following:​

  • Monitor and communicate with all program partners; serve as liaison for all potential partners.
  • Contact parents of students that are at-risk of chronic absenteeism; if child stops attending program
  • Coordinate community walks; handles the distribution of promotional materials to families, local businesses, and teachers to bring awareness to services, activities, and events.
  • Gathers and analyzes feedback from community members during community forums.
  • Assist finding co-locators and additional resources for program
  • Creates and upkeep program event calendar and keeps abreast with school calendar/events
  • Serve as site monitor and coordinator for all program activities on Saturdays and when Program Manager and/or Assistant Program Manager or OST Site Coordinator are off-site.
  • Immediately report to the Program Manager, Assistant Program Manager any: monitoring visits or funders' events; significant events; any incident that might subject CAMBA to liability.
  • Perform other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, and collating.
  • Report to parents clients' attendance via telephone calls, and when necessary.
  • Participate in administrative and staff meetings.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/semester/annual reports to CAMBA management and/or to funders.
  • Serve as group leader when needed.
  • May advise parents on the importance of child(ren)'s regular school attendance during home visits and/or individual parent conferences.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Current Undergraduate student or BA + plus two years applicable experience and/or equivalent experience.

Other Required:

  • Must obtain Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance.
  • Ability to maintain fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Must obtain doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test and clearance from the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Sex Offender Registry.
  • Ability to maintain DCJS Sex Offender Registry clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Ability to adapt to the culture and environment of a public school.
  • Saturday hours required.
