CAMBA needs a Part-time Bilingual Evening Receptionist

CAMBA needs a trained and experienced receptionist to help receive and register evening applicants at its Education Center in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, N.Y. The work schedule is 4:30 to 8:30 pm, Monday through Friday. It is required that candidates have at least a High School or a High School Equivalent diploma. It is also required that candidates have a security guard and a fire guard certification. Candidates who have excellent computer skills and who also speak either Arabic or French or Haitian Creole or Spanish in addition to English are preferred.   • Retrieve messages from general voicemail and forward to appropriate personnel.
  • Take or deliver messages or transfer calls to voicemail when appropriate personnel are unavailable.
  • Answer questions about organization and provide callers with address, directions, and other information.
  • Welcome onsite visitors, determine nature of business, and announce visitors to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor visitor access and issues passes when required.
  • Update appointment calendars.
  • Receive, sort, and route mail, and maintain and route publications.
  • Help maintain copy machines and assist users.
  • Update site bulletin board weekly.
  • Maintain the professional appearance of the reception area.
  • Maintain package log and legal papers.
  • Create and print fax cover sheets, memo, correspondence, report, program marketing materials, and other document when necessary.
  • Administer and track application forms.
  • Keep and update waiting lists for applicants who need English or ABE/HSE prep classes.
  • In coordination with program supervisors, contact and schedule applicants for orientation and placement assessments.
  • Assist with the screening of applicants.
  • Organize and maintain filing system (i.e. - files must include waiting lists, application forms, etc.).
  • Enter required student data for city-funded programs into the designated database.
  • Attend city-funded programs' database training.
  • Perform other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, and collating.


  • Sufficient education (English-speaking, -reading, -writing, & math abilities) to comprehend oral and written information and to assist callers and visitors and staff.
  • NYS Security Guard License
  • NYS Fire Guard License
  • Ability to speak Haitian Creole, or Spanish, or French in addition to English
  • If off-site or school-based, may require: Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
  • If off-site or school-based, ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.​
