Assistant Director, PS 3

Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 160 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 65,000 individuals and families each year at our 90 locations, including 10,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today. 

CAMBA Elite at PS 3 serves 200 students in grades K – 5 in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. This program is funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and 21st Century. Program services are offered 5 days a week and include supper and socialization, homework help, academic enrichment activities, recreation, conflict resolution, and clubs.

What The Assistant Director Does:

The person filling this position is expected, under supervision, to interact with participants, their families, the community-at-large, and school administrative personnel; to monitor attendance and participation in program activities, , ensure the safety and security of each program participant by following all CAMBA after-school protocols and procedures including but not limited to procedures and protocols regarding safety, supervision, accident and incident reporting. The Assistant Director will also lead various program activities (i.e., conflict resolution, community circle, creative arts, recreation, academic enrichment, etc.) during program hours, as needed, monitor, collect, and compile daily and monthly attendance records of targeted participants, and input all client attendance data into databases on a daily basis.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and/or equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
  • Must obtain Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; Staff Exclusion List (SEL) clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
  • Ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Ability to adapt to the culture and environment of a public school
  • After school programs operate Monday thru Friday for 3 hours directly after day school dismissal, 13 Holidays and in the summer.
  • May be required to work Holiday Program Days (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Spring Recess days, Chancellor's Day).
  • Hours: M-F, 10:00am-6:00pm
  • Experience working directly with children
  • Some supervisory experience a plus
