Financial Counselor, Workforce Development/Rockaway Economic Advancement Initiative (REAI)
Seeking a Financial Counselor as a key member of a highly successful initiative serving the Rockaway community with comprehensive workforce development and financial empowerment services. Our ideal candidate has 2-3 years' experience in financial education, personal banking, or finance and is a bi-lingual Spanish speaker. They have seasoned coaching skills and the desire to educate low income people to take control of their personal finances, build assets and become financially stable. Must have the ability to prepare and analyze financial assessment instruments and credit reports, to assist clients in repairing and building credit and assets, and in collaboration with clients to set actionable and achievable goals. Must provide 1:1 financial counseling, deliver group workshops and have the ability to focus and thrive in a high-paced direct service environment. The successful candidate has a commitment to economic equality, the desire to make a difference and to find meaning in helping people achieve economic independence.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) and two years of financial literacy education or related field experience, and/or equivalent experience.
A strong understanding of personal finances, particularly in the areas of budgeting, asset building and credit building and repair.
Previous work experience in the financial sector (counseling, banking, lending, investments) is a plus.
Bi-lingual Spanish preferred
Basic Knowledge of financial products and instruments.
Knowledge of negotiating with creditors and ability to create sustainable payment plans
Knowledge of New York State law and statute of limitations on collection of debt.
May be asked to work an occasional weeknight and Saturdays.
