Health Educator, NYS Department of Criminal Justice Rape Crisis Services
This is a full-time temporary position.

CAMBA's NYS DCJS Rape Crisis Services provides one-time educational workshops and presentations on the awareness of sexual assault and dating violence to students in middle/high schools and college campuses, community residents and service providers.  This position requires an individual that is dedicated, culturally competent and ready to meet the challenges of service delivery in Brooklyn.  CAMBA requires that all employees be high energy, empathic, flexible, willing and hard-working team players.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate one-time educational workshops and presentation on the prevention of sexual assault and services available.
  • Facilitate workshops/ groups to parents, school staff and youth after school.
  • Implement a 6-10 session curricula on "Safe Dates" to student groups in middle/high schools.
  • Provide individual crisis assessment and referral assistance to students in need to Rape Crisis Services Counselor.
  • Provide information and referrals to students and their families to programs and resources in their communities.
  • Conduct special outreach events focusing on Sexual Assault Awareness Month; Crime Victims' Rights Week in April.
  • Prepare reports on participants' demographics, attendance and progress as required
  • Participate in distributing information and resources at community health fairs and other agency outreach events.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports about services provided and submit them in a timely basis. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other health related field and one year applicable experience and/or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with youth in diverse ethnic and cultural communities.
  • Ability to facilitate discussion/ teach class to youth in various settings
  • Ability to discuss topics on safe dating, safety planning and available resources.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends
  • Experience developing and preparing presentations and educational materials.
  • Must obtain Department of Education fingerprint clearance.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics and issues of rape and sexual assault and domestic violence is helpful.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing Software, Spreadsheet software and Internet software.
