Tenant Support Services (TSS) is a CAMBA program that provides case management including counseling and referral to essential services to families and individuals receiving Section 8 voucher benefits who are living in approved apartments in Brooklyn. Families receive services that help them overcome problems with voucher retention, public benefits, housing, education, health care, and other issues that could impede their ability to maintain stable households. In partnership with NYC HPD, CAMBA provides Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) services to HPD Section 8 recipients. Services include case management, workforce development, budgeting, credit repair and financial management, etc. The goal of the program is to help participants enhance their overall self-sufficiency. All FSS clients are eligible for an Independent Development Account (IDA) to encourage savings and promote employment. As clients' earnings increase, the extra money they pay in rent is put into an escrow account by HPD on behalf of the client. At the end of the program, clients receive the money that has been saved on their behalf. They are encouraged to use this money to move toward homeownership, pay for education and/or training, or in other ways to enhance their overall self-sufficiency. Some clients are also eligible for the Work Rewards Program which pays quarterly bonuses for continued employment.
