Senior Grant Writer, Strategic Partnerships-Development Unit

CAMBA's Office of Strategic Partnerships is responsible for informing funders, stakeholders and community members about CAMBA' work in order to further the organization's development and growth. The Development Unit is responsible for developing and achieving CAMBA's government, philanthropic and individual fundraising goals.​

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The incumbent is expected, under general direction, to: (1) Manage a portfolio of public and private grants including writing, preparation and submission of all grant proposals, letters of intent, reports and other written materials (2) Identify and research government and private sources of funding within the portfolio and as requested for other programs by the SVP;  (3) Write, edit, and proofread funding proposals to obtain funds for on-going or new programs and for special projects; (4) Interact with funders as needed; (5) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of government contracting requirements and budgeting; including the following: 

  • Prepare, coordinate, assemble, and/or deliver private funding proposals, government grant applications and renewals for submission
  • Interact and communicate with senior management, program level staff, and government/ foundation representatives during the proposal design, development and implementation phases to ensure agreement with  goals and objectives, scope, feasibility, and program funding needs.
  • Read and analyze research papers, demographic data, program data and statistical information to support proposals.
  • Draft progress reports and provide updates to funders.
  • Maintain a tracking system of proposals, following up to provide additional information as required by funding sources and report regularly to the SVP of Strategic Partnerships and Program Director. 
  • Work with the Fiscal Department to monitor compliance with grant deliverables and outcomes as needed.
  • Prepare and/or assist the program directors, as needed, with the preparation and submission of contract reports and the gathering of statistical information for CAMBA management and funder use.  Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of reports.
  • Arrange and conduct site visits and assure timely, accurate and strategic follow-up with funders and prospective supporters
  • Ensure ethical fundraising practices in response to donor instructions as well as compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that development files are kept in compliance with CAMBA, funder and audit standards.
  • Immediately report to the appropriate program VP/SVP any: monitoring visits or funders' events; significant events; any incident that might subject CAMBA to liability.
  • Participate in staff, fundraising and/or other agency meetings as requested.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.
  • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
  • Comply with any and all Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information

Minimum Education/Experience Requested:

  • B.A. or graduate degree and at least 5 years of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook. Spreadsheet and database knowledge

Other Requirements:

  • Outstanding English verbal, writing and editing skills;
  • Ability to analyze and present data in a compelling manner.
  • Superior professional presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Familiarity with the basic tenets of fundraising and the workings of a foundation and/or government fundraising operation. Experience in a foundation setting or large non-profit organization a plus;
  • Experience in preparing budgets and financial reports;
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated;
  • Reputation for energy, initiative, intellect, flexibility and talent as a team player;
  • Ability to balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail.
