$15 MILLION Saved

by taxpayers each year thanks to CAMBA’s supportive housing for formerly homeless adults and families.

  • New York City’s affordable housing crisis has reached emergency levels, particularly in Brooklyn, where more than 1/3 of all households are spending more than 50% of their income on housing. Without safe and stable homes, children are more likely to fall behind in school, families often become traumatized and the impact is felt throughout our City.
  • Since 2005, CAMBA Housing Ventures has completed over 1,100 units of affordable housing, investing $335 million in distressed communities and creating a platform for economic mobility for more than 2,500 individuals.

Meet Adjowa

“I’m a licensed aesthetician. I’m proud of myself and glad I accomplished something I enjoy doing. I feel blessed to be in a place like CAMBA Gardens.”

Adjowa struggled with a difficult childhood. She was homeless, living in a shelter, when her son was born, and Adjowa vowed she would provide him with a better life. Moving to a permanent, supportive apartment in CAMBA Gardens I enabled her to build a stronger foundation and better future for herself and her child. With supportive services onsite, Adjowa improved her parenting skills and her son thrived. Her case manager introduced her to a cosmetology program, and Adjowa’s enthusiasm won her a scholarship. Today, she holds a number of certifications in skin care and cosmetology and is establishing her career in cosmetology.
